The VSSD:  Increasing social presence, satisfaction, and learning through this research-based online discussion model

This session will explore the strengths and weaknesses of the most commonly-used online discussion models as well as a new model that shows increases in student social presence, satisfaction, and learning.  These three variables are related to online student persistence and completion rates and are most readily impacted by the implementation of student engagement opportunities made possible through high-quality discussion experiences.  Impactful online discussion concepts will be discussed through both the researcher and practitioner lenses.  Participants will be shown the details of the novel VSSD model so that they can apply it in their courses.
