Strategies to Prevent Academic Dishonesty

Studies indicate that over half of all college students have cheated at least once. The percentage may be as high as 89% of students. Faculty play a vital role in whether or not students cheat, however only 20% of faculty stated they would address cheating, even if they were sure that it occurred. Many faculty identify that dealing with academic dishonesty was the hardest part of their job. Preventing academic dishonesty is much easier than addressing it after the fact.This presentation will explore the definition, prevalence, and reasons for academic dishonesty. Simple strategies that faculty can adopt to effectively mitigate academic dishonesty and promote academic integrity will be discussed.
